About the Position:

The Activity and Recreation Therapist Assistant (ARTA) provides services to BHU patients under the direction of the Activity and Recreation Therapist and as prescribed in the multi-disciplinary treatment plan. The ARTA performs target are specific assessments for each person in the BHU as assigned by the ART. Assessment to determine their level of functioning in the areas of; leisure management, sensory awareness, cognitive functioning, social functioning, physical activity and functioning, emotional stability, and substance use and abuse behaviors. Following each assessment the ARTA provides the person and the treatment team with observations and recommendations for interventions to address functional areas which complicate patient recovery and contribute to the patient’s risk for relapse. Once treatment interventions are approved by the treatment team and physician the ARTA implements interventions approved by the ART to address the functional areas. The ARTA may direct the interventions and activities of the BHU Mental Health Technicians (MHTs) when they engage BHU patients in social activities.

Regulatory Requirements:

  • High School graduate or equivalent;
  • BLS certification mandatory
