Delivers advanced professional and technical nursing care to women of childbearing age through intrapartum, delivery, and initial postpartum period, as well as providing care to women admitted antenatal with preterm labor and/or disease processes during their pregnancy. Delivers advanced professional and technical nursing care to newborns during their first hour(s) of life. Performs nursing techniques for the comfort and well being of the patient. Nursing care delivered complies with the objective and policies of the hospital utilizing the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation. Prepares equipment and assist physician during treatment and examination of patients. Collaborates with the medical staff and other disciplines in order to facilitate patient care. Accountable for the smooth, effective, and efficient functioning of the unit during the assigned shift, with minimal direction from the department head. Supervises and instructs department's nursing personnel for assigned shift. Ensures that the department's nursing staff complies with the objectives and policies of the hospital and that age/developmentally appropriate care is given in accordance with unit standards. Performs nursing techniques for the comfort and well being of patient. Provides Leadership Role in emergency situations and delegates appropriately. Assists and provides input to department head regarding employment interviews, staff performance issues/needs, and employee schedules. Conducts staff meetings, performance evaluations, and reports Performance Improvement tools. Functions as Administrator On-Call role for all of Maternity Care Center units on weekends/holidays. May be needed to work beyond the regular tour of duty or in another patient care unit as assigned by department head or nursing supervisor.

Qualifications & Licenses/Certifications

Excellent physical assessment and critical-thinking skills.

Positive affect, demonstrated leadership and time-management skills.

Effective oral and written communication skills in the English language.

Visual and hearing senses must be adequate to assess/detect changes in human physiological condition.

Ability to perform in fast-paced, stressful environment.

Graduate from an approved nursing educational program as defined by the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN)

Current Florida RN license

NRP and ACLS within 3 months, if new to area

Holds a current BLS card

Strongly prefer certification in specialty.

Ability to perform in fast-paced, stressful environment.

Excellent critical thinking skills.

Ability to effectively communicate in writing and orally with all levels of the organization.

Additional languages desirable.
