Job Description


The role of the Athletic Trainer is to provide outstanding support to physicians and healthcare providers while providing exceptional care to patients and customers within the clinical scope of an Athletic Trainer. The Athletic Trainer ensures that patients are treated in a warm and friendly manner and sees that their needs and expectations are met. Athletic Trainers are responsible for ensuring the smooth operations in the fast paced environment of the clinic with the goal of a positive patient experience with every encounter.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide physicians with assistance during patient examinations
  • Obtain, compile and record patient medical data, including health history, progress notes and results of physical examination in the EMR system
  • Complete required documentation and written follow up
  • Educate and counsel patients about exercise protocols, and home rehabilitation programs
  • Assist with brace/crutch fitting and explain procedures for proper use
  • Support healthcare providers and staff with patient service tasks, including escorting to exam rooms, keeping patients informed of wait times, taking detailed medical history and communicating it to the provider.
  • Provide timely responses to patient inquiries
  • Completes assigned training and education

Minimum Requirements

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively on the phone, in writing and via email
  • Ability to exercise discretion on sensitive and confidential matters
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and decision making skills
  • Demonstrated computer skills
  • NATABOC certification
  • Current BLS Certification
  • Bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training

Preferred Qualifications

  • Institutional accreditation and degree obtainment will be verified upon hire
  • One or more years of Athletic Training experience in an outpatient clinic or other healthcare setting
  • Master's degree in Sports Medicine or related field
  • One or more years experience using electronic medical records (EMR)
  • Demonstrated strong positive interpersonal skills with patients and staff

Physical Requirements Standing, sitting, walking, speaking, listening, bending, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping and manipulating tools, typing, using peripheral computer tools
