Job Description


The Bio Med Tech I contributes to the success of the business by providing excellent communication and interpersonal skills, supported with a positive attitude. Reports to the Clinical Engineering operational manager and may interact with hospital functional managers. Peers include radiology, laboratory, nursing facility staff and supervisors. The Bio Med Tech I is accountable for ensuring the effectiveness and efficiency of operational processes for Steward Health Care Systems, as described by CCHCS’ corporate mission and executive leadership team.


  • Perform a variety of routine tasks associated with the installation of a diverse range of clinical equipment
  • Assemble, repair and maintain mechanical, pneumatic, electrical and basic electronic devices according to specifications
  • Perform electrical safety tests on clinical equipment using specialized test equipment
  • Assist in the support of a systematic preventive maintenance program of biomedical instrumentation.
  • Document the introduction of new therapeutic and diagnostic equipment, corrective and preventive maintenance actions and special requests as required
  • Diagnose and correct system and equipment malfunctions by making repairs to ensure that medical equipment and internal circuitry meet specified requirements; make necessary calculations for computing circuit elements necessary to adjust circuitry to specified requirements as instructed
  • Serve as a resource to Steward Health Care System employees in proper operation and maintenance of clinical equipment.
  • Notify user departments regarding status of repairs and works with departments to obtain loaner or replacement equipment as required
  • Report all patient safety issues to supervisor or manager and assist with correction of issue as required
  • Meet departmental performance standards on a consistent basis
  • Answer phones in a pleasant manner, screen and refer calls as appropriate; deliver messages and provide information to staff visitors, and patients, upon request
  • Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor
  • Maintain good working relationships with fellow workers, nursing and medical staff, and the general public
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation
  • Maintain a clean and safe work place

  • Maintenance skills in electronics, mechanical or electromechanical device repair
  • Ability to read color codes on wiring and electrical components
  • Ability to comprehend and follow both written and oral instructions

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, clinical, medical staff and general public
  • Ability to demonstrate competency in the use and operation of all required test equipment
  • A elementary knowledge of e-mail, database management, spreadsheets, and word processor applications
  • Ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays if necessary
  • Ability to function in a sterile environment if necessary
  • Ability to keep neat and accurate records
  • Must be willing to be multi-task trained



  • Associates Degree in Electronics or Biomedical Equipment Technology
  • 6 Months experience in electronic, mechanical or electro-mechanical repair or equivalent. May be entry level with internship experience


Technicians receiving Biomedical certification through the international Certification Commission will receive a 5% increase in pay
