Summary:

Reporting to and at the direction of the Director for Spiritual Care, this position is for an experienced and proven chaplain to work as a part of a busy interfaith spiritual care team in a clinical multi-disciplinary health care setting, in a two-campus hospital in the Roman Catholic tradition.

Job Description:

• Represent the chaplaincy department at appropriate forums within the hospital system.
• Provide spiritual care to patients, especially oncology patients.
• Provides direct spiritual support and end of life counsel to patients and families in keeping with the spiritual belief of the patient and family.
• Participates in multidisciplinary team meetings as required. Attends staff meetings.
• Time management, self-direction, especially under pressure.
• Provides outreach to the greater Methuen and Haverhill clergy community and serves as liaison to the clergy informing them of the needs of their Chaplaincy Services chaplains.
• Online skills, including Microsoft Office, searching the internet and using web based sites and applications such as Meditech 6 for patient charting and reporting.
• Receive direction from the Department Director, report on progress, identify problems and suggest solutions.
• Be prepared to work at either the Methuen or Haverhill campus as directed.
• Maintains regulatory requirements. Complies with all departmental and organizational policies regarding ethical business practices.
• Maintains confidentiality.
• Communicates the mission, ethics and goals of the facility, as well as the focus statement of the department.
• Represents the hospital in a positive and professional manner. Exhibits a polite, respectful and professional manner with all staff, patients and visitors. Demonstrates a willingness to provide exceptional care.

Qualifications:

• At least 2 units of Clinical Pastoral Education at an ACPE accredited CPE center.
• 3+ years of ministry experience in a parish or chaplaincy setting.
• Experience of providing spiritual care to Oncology Patients.
• Approval for chaplaincy from a recognized faith tradition/community or faith community leader.
• Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office.
• Excellent interpersonal skills in an interfaith setting, and working with the public.
• Proven ability to receive direction, work as a member of a busy integrated team and yet with a high degree of personal autonomy.
• Availability for up to 7 hours a week, weekdays between 8 and 4pm.
• Willingness and availability to respond to spiritual care consultation requests, working collaboratively as a member of the oncology unit staff.
