About ORMC:
Odessa Regional Medical Center was founded in 1975 by 14 obstetricians, pediatricians, and family practitioners as Odessa Women’s and Children’s Hospital. Through the years, the hospital grew and evolved into a full-service healthcare facility and the name was changed to Odessa Regional Hospital in 1995.
In June 2007, Odessa Regional Hospital purchased Alliance Hospital and changed its name to Odessa Regional Medical Center to reflect its larger campus and more comprehensive services. In 2015, ORMC acquired Basin Healthcare Center. The hospital has 225 beds and has approximately 250 physicians on staff and has over 700 employees.
Today, ORMC offers a wide spectrum of healthcare services, including advanced diagnostic imaging technology, emergency care, innovative surgical procedures, maternity care, comprehensive cardiac services and general medical care.
About the position:
The ideal candidate will Produces recordings of electromotive variations in patient’s heart muscle, using electrocardiograph (EKG), to provide data for diagnosis of heart ailments by performing the following duties. Performs two dimensional ultrasonic recordings of heart and vessels for the diagnosis of disease and study of the malfunction. Participates in Performance Improvement Activities. Provides service to age range from neonate to geriatric. Candidate must be able to read ECG/EKG rythms and willing to train for Holter Monitor placement.
About the Skills Needed:
Ability to perform EKGs according to procedure. |
Moves electrodes along specified area of chest to produce electrocardiogram that records electromotive variations occurring in different areas of heart muscle. |
Monitors EKG for abnormal patterns. |
Inputs information into machine and marks tracing to indicate positions of chest electrodes. |
Maintains adequate supply on EKG carts |
Attaches electrodes of Holter monitor to patient to record data over extended period of time. |
Sends reports to physicians and files reports in department according to department procedures. |
Manages and operates equipment safely and correctly. Inspects cardiology equipment to ensure it is functioning correctly. Reports all malfunctions. |
Treats patients and their families with respect and dignity. |
Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors. |
Notifies appropriate licensed personnel when patient complains of pain. |
Maintains a thorough knowledge of all departmental forms and log books and their proper usage. |
Attends education inservice programs to maintain competency. Attends hospital inservice programs and training. |
Selects appropriate equipment for use in ultrasound setup, following exam specifications. |
Explains the test to the patient. Instructs and assists the patient in assuming the physical position for examination. |
Has knowledge of hospital policies and the functions of other departments. |
Provides care appropriate to condition and age of the patient, including pediatric, geriatric and general population. (See Performance Evaluation Age-Related Competency) |
Participates in performance improvement activities. |
Regulatory Requirements:
- High school graduate; Associates degree is preferred, but not required.
- Prefer specific experience and training in Ultrasound.
- Current BCLS certification
- Successful completion of basic cardiac orientation
- Stroke Training – Recommended
- Chest Pain - Recommended
Language Skills:
- Ability to read and communicate effectively in English.
- Additional languages preferred.
- Moderate written and verbal skills.
Skills:
- Basic computer knowledge.
- Ability to use EKG and Holter monitors.
