Infection Control Nurse
32 hours per week. Monday-Friday. Day shift 7a to 3:30
ò Under the general supervision of the Manager/Director of Quality & Patient Safety, with latitude for independent initiative and judgment, the Infection Control Nurse is a central figure in the hospital-wide infection control program. He/she is responsible for investigation, surveillance, control and prevention of infections in hospital patients and employees.
ò The Infection Control Nurse is directly accountable to the Manager/Director of Quality & Patient Safety and has a collaborative relationship with the Medical Chief in the Department of Medicine, Division of Infectious Disease.
ò The Infection Control Nurse has the responsibility to educate all levels of nursing personnel and other health care workers regarding infection control practices.
ò Twenty (20) hours per week, flexible schedule. Occasional off-site travel required.
ò Directs and coordinates the hospital-wide Infection Control Program.
ò Serves as departmental advisor for the interpretation and compliance monitoring with The Joint Commission (TJC) and relevant Regulatory Agencies.
ò Serves as liaison to corporate, statewide and national collaborative for infection control initiatives
ò Advises and consults with physicians, nurses, hospital personnel, and administration concerning precautions to be taken to protect patients, staff, and other persons from possible contamination or infection.
ò Coordinates and works with laboratory staff and manager(s)/director(s) to ensure proper reporting of infections based upon state and federal rules and regulations and identifies conditions that require infection control procedures and/or exposure follow-up.
ò Involved in quality measures related to infection control and antibiotic usage, works with teams as needed on improvements around strategic initiatives, involvement may include, but is not limited to: quality indicator development, chart review, assisting with public reporting requirements, data abstraction, computer entry, report generation, data analysis and trending, presentation, and improvement activity facilitation in accordance with organizational direction and regulatory requirements.
ò Attends department/hospital meetings where measurement and evaluations functions and infection control activities are performed.
ò Available by beeper at all times, during scheduled working hours.
ò Shall be accountable for maintaining the confidentiality and security of all hospital-related, medical staff-related and patient-related data and information.

I. Education: Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN) required, Master's Degree in Nursing, Public Health, or Microbiology, preferred.
II. Experience : Minimum of 2-3 years in infection control/epidemiology. Teaching experience preferred.
III. Certification/Licensure: Current license to practice as an RN in Massachusetts (MA). Training in Infection Control methodology, concepts, education and implementation. Certification in Infection Prevention and Control, preferred. Experience in Infection Control required.
IV. Software/Hardware: Working knowledge of Microsoft Office required. Knowledge of National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN) data collection, RlSolutions, and Meditech, preferred.
