Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY:

The lead central service technician is responsible for the overall running of the central service department. Work involves inventorying, disassembling, cleaning, high level disinfection, sterilization, reassembling, and maintaining operating room and endoscopy instrumentation. Schedules CST staff assignments. Educates staff on new products and policies related to instruments, surgical equipment and sterilization processes. Maintains all documentation and logs related to sterilization, and communicates daily with OR staff and OR manager any issues regarding equipment availability. Coordinates the ordering, delivery, receipt and processing of loaner trays with affiliated vendors. Coordinates preventative maintenance programs for sterilization and disinfection equipment with Biomedical Engineering. Initiates repair and maintenance of sterilization/disinfection equipment and instrumentation when necessary.

ò Processes all instruments and equipment for the operating room through disinfection and sterilization
ò High level disinfection
ò Maintains all documentation and logs related to sterilization, including temperature and humidity logs, eye wash log, and equipment repair log.
ò Responsible for maintaining IFU's related to endoscopy/operating room equipment and instrumentation
ò Assigns CST staff
ò Educates CST staff on new products and policies related to sterilization processes
ò Placing of work orders for equipment repair
ò Performs other duties as assigned

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:

ò Ability to work independently and take initiative.
ò Ability to problem solve and trouble shoot minor probelms
ò Good communication and organizational skills
ò Knowledge of aseptic technique, infection control principles, sterilization techniques, equipment and supply processing, and operation of steam sterilizers.
ò Knowledge of Spaulding Classification
ò Knowledge of AORN Standards and Recommended Practices
ò Knowledge of AAMI Guidelines
ò Ability to prioritize equipment needs of the operating room
ò Ability to work in a fast-paced enviroment

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/LICENSURE/TECHNICAL/OTHER:

Education: High School Diploma or GED
Experience: 1 û 5 years required
Certification/Licensure: CRCST required
Software/Hardware: Meditech, Microsoft Office
