StewardMedical Group (SMG), Inc. is Steward's multi-specialty group practice with over4,500 employees including over 1,800 physicians and advanced practitioners. SMGoperates approximately 450 practice locations throughout Massachusetts,Southern New Hampshire, Rhode Island, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Florida,Utah, Arizona, Texas, Louisiana and Arkansas, and provides more than 4 millionpatient encounters per year.

Therole of a Coder III is to provide coding support to Steward Clinics in theassignment of ICD-10-CM diagnosis, CPT-4 procedure codes and HCPCs codes.Coders ensure that maximum reimbursement is achieved and a valid database isavailable for research, reporting, quality and improvement activities. 


Key Responsibilities

Receivesand reviews charge documents for accuracy

Reports on missing, incomplete, or inconsistentdocumentation to appropriate personnel

Educatesproviders and clinic staff of proper fee ticket completion and assignment ofICD-10-CM and HCPCS codes

Acts as a resource for Practice Managers, Physiciansand CBO regarding insurance denials resolution and coding questions

Performsaccurate charge entry in a timely manner

Acceptsand posts co-pays, and balances charge posting

Keepsmanager informed of the status of unbilled charges

Maintainsa coding accuracy of 95%

Accuratelyfollows coding guidelines and legal requirements to ensure compliance with federaland state regulations

MentorsCoder I and Coder II team members regarding accuracy and required procedures

Assistswith audits and research for complex billing and coding issues

Maintainscoding certification and assists with presentation of in-service training

Participatesin committee meetings and activities as required

Completesassigned training and education

Performsother duties as determined by the Coding Manager


Minimum Requirements

HighSchool diploma or GED equivalent

Codingcertification (will accept certifications to be completed within 6 months ofhire)

Currentcredentials for a medical coding specialty

Tenor more years coding experience with demonstrated experience in more than twomedical specialties

Mustbe willing to travel to designated clinics in Davisand Salt Lake counties

Demonstratedability to communicate effectively on the phone, in writing and via email

Abilityto exercise discretion on sensitive and confidential matters

Demonstratedcomputer skills with data entry, coding and Electronic Medical Record software

Abilityto apply mathematical concepts and calculations

Abilityto interpret policies and procedures and communicate effectively

Abilityto show initiative, make decisions and exercise good judgment in a complex andrapidly changing environment

Abilityto work in a team environment

Institutionalaccreditation and degree obtainment will be verified upon hire


Preferred Qualifications

Oneor more years of demonstrated customer service experience

Demonstratedexperience with NextGen EMR software

Thoroughunderstanding of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology

Physical Requirements
