The Payroll Specialist is responsible for the administration of all payroll functions, including payroll processing, financial audits of benefits, liability and expense distribution along with providing back up for accounts payable and vendor payment as time permits. Works collaboratively with Finance team members on general ledger related support and personnel budgeting. Serves as back up person to HR on entry and processing within the HRIS system, time-clock system, data entry and reporting, including vendor relationship management.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure timely and accurate payroll processing
  • Critically review and process payroll in accordance with company policies and procedures
  • Respond to payroll inquiries and required adjustments
  • Produce payroll reports after each pay period close and provide to Accounting & HR staff
  • Manage integrity of payroll system with changes, deletions, additions concerning time corrections or personal information
  • Communication with vendors and management on accounts payable invoicing as back up to A/P Clerk
  • Provide back up support for accounts payable clerk,
  • Serve as subject matter expert on lawful payroll practices under the DOL, federal and state regulations
  • Manage entry and support for HRIS payroll platform, time-clock system and payroll related technology
  • Collaborate with Finance and Human Resources department on efficiencies, systems configuration and internal processes
  • Lead implantation efforts for payroll systems integration
  • Assist general employee workforces with direct deposits, tax form entry, time-clock issues, payroll questions, and payroll systems training
  • Annual processing of W2 Forms
  • Additional payroll related support
  • Assist in reconciling insurance carrier invoices for payment

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) or equivalent obtained at a four-year college or university in Accounting, Finance or related field preferred
  • Certified Payroll Professional CPP certificate is desirable

Years of Experience:

  • At least three (3) years of experience processing payroll for a large workforce required
  • Experience processing garnishments
  • Experience with General concepts and principles of accounting (GAAP) recommended
  • Experience in the healthcare industry or the State of Arizona’s AHCCCS program is a plus

Specialized Knowledge:

  • Lawson and/or Workday experience highly preferred
  • Centricity / API Timekeeping System experience preferred
  • ADP Payroll System and Funding experience preferred
  • Current knowledge of payroll procedures, practices, regulations, and taxes
  • Multi-state payroll and experience reconciling taxes preferred
  • Project Management with internal and external stakeholders experience
  • ADP tax filing experience

  • Able to work with sensitive information in a professional and confidential manner
  • Ability to accurately portray financial and payroll data in Excel format; use of formulas, graphs, and pivot tables,
  • Ability to analyze information, develop sound recommendations and present data in order to provide effective decision making.
