The Surgical Physician Assistant (PA) provides patient care in collaboration with specific surgeons face-to-face orcommunication devices such as phone or computer. Conducts surgical history/physical exams, orders and interprets diagnostic/lab tests and develops plan of care. Writes prescriptions, controlled substances per Delineation of Privileges. First assists in surgery. Performs surgical procedures in the operating room under the direct supervision of the surgeon. Performs procedures in the clinic under direct or indirect supervision. The PA has synergistic relationship with the surgeon and highly technical skills increases patient safety and positive surgical outcomes. Enables the continuity of care by managing patients in the pre, intra and post operative settings. Performs inpatient rounding, consultations, wound care and bedside procedures. In the outpatient setting, manages clinics, clinic procedures, facilitates family and patient education, and participates in grand rounds. Works directly with staff, administration, patients and families to ensure quality care across the continuum as an expert in surgical practice areas. Performs on-call coverage requiring high-level decision making on weekdays, weeknights, and weekends inclusive of surgery.

CUSTOMER SERVICE RESPONSIBILITIES:

Performs duties and conducts interpersonal relationships in a manner designed to project a positive image of the department and the hospital. Works with supervisor/manager and other members of section or department to promote a harmonious work environment. Ensures that all contacts with patients, the public, physicians and other hospital personnel are carried out in a friendly, courteous, helpful and considerate manner. Answers telephones in a prompt and courteous manner. Displays concern and provides assistance or explains procedures as appropriate to callers or in face-to-face situations. Dedicated to meeting the expectations and requirements of internal and external customers. Works with customers to identify problem areas and recommend solutions.

Associates Licenses & Certifications: NCCPA Certified Physician Assistant Drug Enforcement Administration Physician Assistant Additional

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Obtain medical staff credentialing and privileges.
  • Compliant with state requirements for CEUs/CMEs and licensure renewal.
  • DEA License required as per specialty.
  • Masters degree preferred.
  • Graduate of an accredited physician assistant program completing at least one semester of surgical training.
  • Demonstrates proper surgical and sterile technique.
  • BLS/ACLS required as per specialty.
  • National Certification.
