POSITION SUMMARY: |
Performs a variety of clerical support services for the efficient operation of the Radiology Department |
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: |
- Maintains, assembles, files, retrieves and tracks radiology folders
- Files radiology reports
- Completes computer functions per department protocol
- Processes requests for films to be sent to physicians, other facilities,
- Legal representatives and courts.
- Answers the phone, takes messages and directs calls appropriately
- Attends to the need of our customers
- Is responsible for ongoing development of his/her work skills through the use of available resources (i.e.: inservices, formal educational programs, other work groups and on-the-job training).
- Attends and participates in staff meetings and inservices and/or reviews documentation as required.
- Assists in the orientation of others and actively participates in mentoring.
- Performs analytical and decision making functions with minimal supervision.
- Recognizes and seeks assistance/consultation when appropriate.
- Demonstrates an understanding of relative Hospital and all-departmental policies and procedures including safety issues.
- Possesses awareness of programs/services provided by Hospital and where they are located.
- Enter exams veriifying ordering physician routine. Orders patient exams using patient’s correct/current account number for accuaracy of patient identification; verifies patient exam/clinical history and reason for exam.
- Film loan: Handles film loan requests with accuracy – specific data is consistently documented during this process (films requested, need for report,request to mail vs patient pick-up). Accepts films from outside agencies and accurately enters the data via Medi-Tech.
- Patient folders: Applies knowledge in maintaining patient folders assuring labels are properly paced and in sequence and folders are delivered to the appropriate testing area.
- Accurately relocates folders via Medi-Tech according to policy/procedure. (ie takes numbers directly from folder to assure correct and mot current patient’s folder is located/relocated in the computer)
- Obtains appropriate patient, parent and/or legal guardian signatures according to policy/procedure prior to releasing patient information/films.
- Files folder/reports with high degree of accuracy and will take appropriate steps to correct a situation found to be in error.
- Maintains file room in a neat and orderly fashion, assuring folders are filed accurately, taking appropriate steps to correct any errors.
- Pulls folders for scheduled cases in accordance with policy/procedure utilizing good organizational skills.
- Telephone skills – Is courteous when answering/referring phone calls. Takes accurate messages to include date of message; time message taken and places own initials to afford the intended receiver the ability to seek additional information if necessary.
- Applies knowledge and skills in the use of various office equipment (ie fax machine, printers, copy machine, film duplicator) and is able to maintain equipment in good working order (ie change ribbon; paper and labels).
- Provides coverage during system down-time; maintains flexibility to accommodate departmental needs during a system downtime.
- Sorts and routes written physician’s order accurately.
- Sorts and distributes mail accurately.
- Routinely reviews office policies/procedures in order to remain informed regarding any new procedures established and/or old procedures updated.
- Completes annual job competencies in a timely manner.

- Uses time and resources to the best possible advantage for successful completion of job responsibilities.
