Radiology Technologist
Job Description
Perform medical exams using X-rays on patients to create images of specific parts of the body.
Radiologic Technologist Job Responsibilities:
Adjust and maintain imaging equipment. Follow precise orders from physicians on what areas of the body to image. Prepare patients for procedures, including taking a medical history and shielding exposed areas that do not need to be imaged.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Communication skills to compassionately and accurately explain to the patient what they are about to experience, must also be able to clearly communicate test results to doctors and staff
- Calibrate and maintain radiology equipment, technical knowledge. Each machine model is different, so you will have to learn and relearn technology as it changes
- Must be kind and show empathy and patience
- Because a Radiologic Technologist spends many hours on their feet, they must have stamina. There are also times when you must physically help patients, which calls for physical strength.
- Must be detail-orientated and be good at math and science.
- Must be comfortable interacting with patients and be comfortable with the human body.
- Needs a valid Radiologic Technologist license & to be registered with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (AART) and have a current BLS for healthcare provider CPR or CRP/AED certification.
Responsibilities & Duties:
- Follow instructions from physicians regarding which area of the patient’s body needs imaging
- Talk the patient through the procedure and answer questions to lower their anxiety
- Correctly position the patient, adjust the imaging equipment to the specified position
- Prevent unnecessary radiation exposure both to themselves and to the patient
- Follow correct techniques and procedures, such as patient shielding
- Keep good patient records
- Maintain radiology supplies inventory by checking stock, anticipating future needs and placing orders
- Maintain a safe and clean working environment
