***Speech Pathologist Per Diem

POSITION SUMMARY

Responsible for diagnostic and treatment services for clients of all ages with speech and language impairments, hearing disorders and dysphagia. Maintains a level of clinical productivity commensurate with departmental standards.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Administers, diagnoses, interprets evaluations based on standard/recommended techniques and pertinent background information.
  • Communicates evaluation results and recommendations in a comprehensive manner as reported in patient surveys.
  • Demonstrates ability to address and prioritize treatment goals in a creative/functional manner within the therapy session to facilitate optimal progress/skill level.
  • Appropriately adapts standard methods of evaluation/treatment techniques to elicit relevant and functional data when necessary.
  • Establishes and maintains a therapeutic relationship with the client/family member and uses praise and other reinforcements to encourage appropriate behavior.
  • Demonstrates reasonable expectations of clients, family members and other professionals cognizant of the limitations under which they may be functioning.
  • Regularly maintains communication with the client and caregivers concerning treatment techniques, goals, home programs and discharge transition to facilitate carryover of progress made.
  • Write diagnostic evaluation and treatment progress reports in a clear, concise, and accurate manner, within the time frames specified by departmental policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrates an ability to organize and achieve quality performance in new routines, procedures and skills, able to adjust to change.
  • Maintains a minimum standard of productivity per established Center policy as the client workload remains constant and adjusts schedule in view of fluctuations in the client workload.
  • Accepts emergency/priority clients as assigned.
  • Responds to fluctuations in workload by accepting/requesting additional evaluations, rescheduling cancellations, seeing walk-in clients, developing new service options.
  • Utilizes downtime effectively to perform documentation duties, self-education and/or department projects.
  • Willingly takes on additional responsibility for departmental projects (community service, inservices, health fairs, performance improvement), which ensures continued growth of the department and hospital.
  • Initiates and practices constructive confrontation, exercising considerable discretion, keeping open channels of communication in dealing with co-workers and supervisors.
  • Actively participates in or initiates suggestions for determining innovative solutions to problems encountered in day-to-day operations which will make the department run more smoothly.
  • Ensures that all billing duties are completed promptly and accurately.
  • Consistently enforces/reinforces the cancellation/timeliness policies with clients, and demonstrates ability to terminate treatment appropriately.
  • Completes work assignments within an acceptable time frame.
  • Uses time and resources to the best possible advantage for successful completion of job responsibilities.
  • Develops and maintains efficient working relationships.
  • Is reliable in respect to attendance.
  • Is Reliable in respect to punctuality.
  • Recognizes the importance of team efforts and partners with others to achieve positive outcomes

CUSTOMER SERVICE SKILLS:

  • Is responsible for ongoing development of his/her work skills through the use of available resources (i.e.: inservices, formal educational programs, other work groups and on-the-job training).
  • Attends and participates in staff meetings and inservices and/or reviews documentation as required.
  • Assists in the orientation of others and actively participates in mentoring.
  • Performs analytical and decision making functions with minimal supervision.
  • Recognizes and seeks assistance/consultation when appropriate.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of relative Hospital and all-departmental policies and procedures including safety issues.
  • Possesses awareness of programs/services provided by Hospital and where they are located.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/LICENSURE/TECHNICAL/OTHER:

Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in Communication Disorders/Speech-Language Pathology
  • ASHA Certification/eligibility (CFY)
  • Mass State License/eligibility

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with pediatric and adult populations.
