Position Summary:

The Surgery Aide/OR Orderly reports to the Assistant Nurse Manager. Performs all the necessary responsibilities required to transport patients to and from various patient care areas and departments within the hospital to designated areas.

Cleans all surgical areas after procedures and works to maintain the Turnover goal of 30 minutes. Is responsible for stocking all sub-sterile areas and ordering supplies, receiving and stocking in the OR.

Assists with the set-up for surgical procedures by obtaining the necessary equipment for the case. Assist in moving patients to and from the OR table, stretcher or bed. Assists in PACU and Holding when necessary to transport patients.

Job Description And Duties

  • Assists nursing personnel whenever needed within scope of training and ability.
  • Makes rounds & ensures that all OR suites have basic equipment needed for the days cases.
  • Assists nurses in the procuring specialty equipment for scheduled cases.
  • Ensure that equipment are wiped/decontaminated with a germicidal solution before being brought in to the OR suite.
  • Transports patient to & from the operating room, provides for special needs ie.cribs, patient beds to facilitate safe transport.
  • Ensure that scrub areas & utility rooms are well stocked with necessary supplies
  • Ensures that appropriate par levels are kept & prevent overstocking of supplies.
  • Cleans after each case ensuring that all furniture are cleaned with a disinfectant solution,
  • Making sure that all garbage from previous case are removed.
  • Uses a clean mop head every time, does not put a used mop head into the disinfectant bucket.
  • Keeps cleaning cart clean with fresh disinfectant solution daily.
  • Assists in moving patients from OR table to bed/stretchers by following established guidelines
  • As evidenced by observing good body mechanics, ensuring that stretchers/beds are locked all lines, drains,etc
  • Contains & collects trash by following established policies to prevent biohazardous contamination.
  • Ensures that trash are collected in appropriate containers.

Minimum Requirements

  • 1 year experience in a clinical role in an Acute Care Setting, preferably an Operating Room
  • High School Diploma
  • BLS
